Test equipment is used in many companies for performing quality inspections. In order to ensurethat the test equipment used always fulfils the defined performance criteria, most companiesregularly test and calibrate their test equipment.Using the functions in the component Test Equipment Management, you can manage equipmentdata, plan and schedule inspections, and perform calibration inspections for the equipment.
Statistical process control (SPC) is used to monitor, control, and improve processes.
The QM-STI (Statistical Data Interface) is an open interface linking the Quality Management(QM) application component to external evaluation systems. You can use this function to performevaluations that are not supported by the statistical functions in QM results recording (controlcharts, histograms, process capability indices). You can use a format defined by SAP to transferthe recorded inspection results from the QM component to the external evaluation system. The interface can be used in the following cases: For the Manual Statistical Analysis of QM Inspection ResultsIn order to analyze QM inspection results in your own statistics system, you need anevaluation method that transfers inspection results and calls up the statistics system. For the Automatic Start of Predefined Statistical AnalysesYou can perform predefined statistical evaluations directly from transactions. Forexample, you can display probabilities in QM results recording or in a control chart. Aprerequisite for this is that the evaluation method has been created and released with theappropriate evaluation steps by the project team.
The Quality Management (QM) application component includes comprehensive functions forprocessing and managing physical samples during goods receipt [Page 7] and production [Page8]. The Sample Management component supplements the existing QM functions for processingsamples by allowing you to: Flexibly plan the drawing of physical samples Identify physical samples on the basis of unique, client-wide keys Record inspection results for physical samples Manage the physical-sample data in the systemThe Sample Management component supports many of the requirements in the process industryfor documenting and tracking the physical samples drawn in quality inspections. It provides theQM component with many of the functions that are typically found in Laboratory InformationManagement Systems (LIMS)
In the Results Recording component, you record and process results for inspectioncharacteristics. The inspection lot [Ext.] is the reference object in results recording. The recorded inspection results document the quality of the inspected product and provide thebasis for creating batch specifications and inspection certificates. You can use the recordedresult data to make evaluations for quality control purposes.
